Kreese Terna (real name Kateryna Nyzkopoklonna) is an indie-pop artist, songwriter and producer originally from Donetsk, Ukraine.

After seven years in Kyiv, she moved to Paris in 2022. It was in France, together with a French sound producer, that she completed work on a series of five singles.

Her song “Freefall” was written in April 2022, during a moment of deep uncertainty when Kateryna was trying to understand where life would take her next. The very first demo was recorded using only her voice, as she had no instruments or studio setup available at the time.

Rather than speaking about the war directly, Freefall captures a feeling that resonates far beyond Ukraine, the moment when life seems suspended between sky and earth, when it feels as if the ground beneath your feet has disappeared.

The song reflects the fragile space where the familiar world begins to collapse and the people we love slowly turn into memories. It evokes the experience of losing home, stability and certainty about the future, a quiet, universal sense of falling that many people recognize in moments of profound change.

The lyrics suggest a sudden rupture with the past: the moment when “the enemy knocks on the door,” when one has to leave without saying goodbye, abandoning the things that only yesterday seemed important.
